GFRP mesh for industrial and warehouse flooring

A corrosion-free mesh for slabs, pavements and hardstands, supplied as cards or rolls. This page is for teams who currently specify steel welded mesh and need a designed alternative, not a copied schedule.

Published by 7 Star IMPEX LLP · 14 October 2026 · Figures below are from 7 STAR’s published product literature. A project BOQ still has to be calculated for the slab.

01

Who this page is for

Industrial flooring and warehouse flooring are one page here, because the mesh decision is the same job: a slab on grade, a joint layout, and a steel-mesh schedule someone wants to replace.

Flooring contractors

Teams placing industrial slabs, pavements and hardstands who want sheets that arrive ready to lay.

Warehouse developers

Logistics and warehousing projects where the floor is the working asset and corrosion repairs are expensive.

Industrial owners

Plants specifying long-life floors in wet, chemical or high-traffic bays.

Consultants

Engineers checking whether a steel welded-mesh drawing can be redesigned in GFRP.

02

Why GFRP mesh, instead of another steel sheet

These points follow 7 STAR’s published mesh comparison. They are reasons to ask for a design. They are not a promise that every floor saves the same amount.

The mesh does not rust

7 STAR’s literature says a floor should not need a corrosion repair of the kind associated with rusting steel mesh. Joints, concrete quality and loading still govern how the slab performs.

Sheets are light enough to place quickly

The same literature lists less labour to prepare and lay the mesh, and no time spent fabricating mesh on site. Crew size still depends on the pour plan.

Cards and rolls arrive to size

Width is 500 to 2,000 mm, in the cell sizes listed above. Less site cutting means less scrap. Offcuts are not a resale material the way steel is.

Overlap, cover and binding wire change

Published comparisons cite lower overlap cost, less binding wire, and a smaller cover than steel because the bar does not rust. The lap and cover on your drawing still have to be designed.

It does not conduct electricity

Useful around electrical rooms and sensitive equipment. Confirm the requirement with the project consultant before you rely on it.

Consumption can drop, if the design allows it

7 STAR’s mesh note cites a 30 to 50 percent reduction in reinforcement consumption versus steel mesh in its comparison. Use that only as a reason to run your own BOQ. Slab thickness, load and steel price decide the result.

Design limits

  • GFRP is less stiff than steel. Do not copy the steel mesh diameter and spacing.
  • It is not the reinforcement for columns or other members that work mainly in compression.
  • Bars and mesh are not bent on site. Bends are made in the factory.
  • Cutting is done with a grinder or cutting wheel. Store sheets flat, do not drag them, and cover them from sunlight.
03

Where the mesh is specified

7 STAR’s published FAQ already places GFRP mesh in industrial floors, pavements, warehouses and slabs. Named project sheets are shared on request, after the client has cleared the reference.

Industrial floor slabs

Production bays and process areas where a rusting mesh would show up as a floor repair, not just a hidden bar.

Warehouse and logistics slabs

Rack loads, aisle traffic and large pours. Suitable for heavy-load slabs when the mesh is designed for that load.

Pavements and hardstand

External yards and approach slabs, including areas with water and de-icing or wash-down chemicals.

Podiums

7 STAR’s FAQ includes podiums with warehouses as heavy-load slabs that can use GFRP mesh when the design is done for GFRP.

What to send for a mesh proposal

Slab thickness, design load, joint spacing, exposure (dry, wet, chemical), and the current steel mesh schedule if you have one. 7 STAR uses that as the flooring design input. A full design note is prepared from those inputs rather than from a generic sheet.

04

GFRP mesh and steel welded mesh

An educational comparison for buyers. It does not name a competing mill, and it does not say one product wins on every line of a BOQ.

Read with the slab drawing. Tensile strength and stiffness are different properties, so material quantity will not match a steel schedule one for one.
Question GFRP mesh Steel welded mesh
Corrosion Does not rust. Literature cites no corrosion repair of the floor from the mesh itself. Rusts if cover or exposure is poor. Repairs are a known floor cost.
Weight and labour Light sheets. Literature cites less labour to prepare and lay mesh. Heavier to lift, place and tie.
How it arrives Cards or rolls, made to width. Little site fabrication. Often cut, lapped and tied on site.
Scrap and theft Custom size cuts scrap. No scrap resale value of the kind steel has. Offcuts and site theft are recurring steel costs in 7 STAR’s own comparison.
Stiffness Lower elastic modulus. Spacing and diameter are redesigned. Conventional steel design practice.
Conductivity Non-conductive and non-magnetic. Conducts electricity and is magnetic.

Why 7 STAR for this floor

7 Star IMPEX LLP makes GFRP bars, mesh and bent elements as part of the Shri Rathi Group. The group’s long steel business is a separate history from this GFRP line. The GFRP technology collaboration with Armastek is the one published on 7stargfrp.com.

Mesh for a floor is a design conversation: load, joints, cover and exposure. The enquiry on this page is routed as an industrial and warehouse flooring request.

Works: UPSIDC Industrial Area, Plot E, Gulawati Road, Phase III, Masuri, Hapur, and RIICO Industrial Area, Kushkhera, Bhiwadi. Corporate office: A-29, Sector 65, Noida.

Flooring questions

Can GFRP mesh be used in warehouse floors?

Yes, when it is designed for the load. 7 STAR’s published FAQ says GFRP mesh can handle heavy loads such as podiums and warehouses when designed properly, and that it is used for industrial floors, pavements, warehouses and slabs.

Is it a straight replacement for steel welded mesh?

No. GFRP has high tensile strength and a much lower weight, but it is less stiff than steel. Diameter, spacing, lap and cover are redesigned. Send the current steel schedule with the slab data.

What mesh sizes can be ordered?

Published range: width 500 to 2,000 mm, cells of 50×50, 100×100, 150×150 and 200×200 mm, bar diameter 4 to 6 mm, issued as cards or rolls.

How is it cut, tied and stored?

A grinder or cutting wheel is enough, and 7 STAR’s FAQ says normal binding wire can be used on building floors. Road works under IRC:137-2022 are stricter: plastic straps or plastic-coated wire only. Store flat, avoid dragging, and cover the material from sunlight.

Can the mesh be bent on site?

No. On-site bending can crack GFRP. Bends are factory-made under controlled heat. Order bent elements against a drawing.

Which code applies?

7 STAR’s site names IS 18256:2023 and IS 18255:2023 as the BIS standards, and ACI 440 as a design reference. Road works are covered separately under IRC:137-2022.
