GFRP for precast and bent elements

For precast factories and contractors producing boundary walls, drain sections, covers, barriers and panels. GFRP bars, mesh and factory-bent shapes keep the unit light to handle and corrosion-free in thin sections.

Published by 7 Star IMPEX LLP · 18 October 2026 · Bend rules quoted from IRC:137-2022 apply to road components and are good practice elsewhere.

01

Who this page is for

Bent elements and precast boundary walls are on one page, because the buyer is usually the same: a team making repeat units to a drawing.

Precast manufacturers

Factories making walls, drains, covers and barriers who want lighter cages and no rust staining.

Contractors

Site teams casting in-situ elements that need stirrups, links or shaped bars delivered ready to place.

Infrastructure teams

Road and drainage packages using precast items from the IRC:137-2022 permitted list.

Consultants

Designers who need to know what can be bent, at what radius, and how it is tested.

02

Why GFRP in a precast unit

7 STAR’s FAQ says GFRP is widely used in precast factories because it is light and corrosion-free. These are the reasons, with the limits beside them.

Thin sections, no rust

Precast walls, covers and drains often have little cover. A bar that does not rust removes the spalling and staining risk in those sections.

Lighter cages

At about one fifth of the weight of steel at the same diameter, cages and mesh are easier to carry and place in the mould. The concrete still sets the weight of the finished unit.

Cut to length, made to shape

Bars, mesh and bent elements are made to size, so the factory cuts less and keeps less scrap.

Non-conductive, non-magnetic

Useful for covers and panels near cables, sensors and induction loops.

Limits to plan for

  • No bending on site. Every bend is ordered from the factory against a drawing.
  • Lifting inserts and lifting design are checked by the precast designer. Do not assume steel details carry over.
  • The unit is redesigned for GFRP’s lower stiffness. Do not copy steel bar marks.

Precast elements that use GFRP

From 7 STAR’s published application lists and FAQ, and the IRC:137-2022 list for road components.

Precast boundary walls

Panels and posts exposed to weather on both faces, where rust staining shows quickly. Boundary walls appear across 7 STAR’s application lists.

Drains, trench covers and staircases

7 STAR’s FAQ names trench covers, staircases and barriers as precast uses. Drain sections stay wet for most of their life.

Crash barriers and parapets

Precast barrier units, bridge parapets and pedestrian railings, all on the IRC:137-2022 permitted list for road projects.

Box culverts, MSE panels and pavement panels

Box culverts, MSE wall panels and copings, and short-panel precast concrete pavements are also on the IRC list.

04

How to order bent elements

GFRP bent elements are custom-made with specific bends, angles or curves. Bending is done in the factory under controlled heat, because bending on site can crack the bar. Send the following and the order can be priced and scheduled.

A complete schedule avoids remakes. A bent GFRP bar cannot be re-bent or straightened once it is made.
Send Why it matters
Shape drawingEvery leg length, angle and the reference face, as on a bar bending schedule.
Nominal diameterSets the minimum bend radius and the available shapes.
Inside bend radiusUnder IRC:137-2022, at least three times the diameter for M6–M25 and four times for M29 and M32.
Quantity per shapeBent elements are made in batches per shape and diameter.
TolerancesEspecially for cages that must fit a steel mould.
Delivery sequenceWhich shapes are needed first, so production follows the casting plan.
Applicable codeRoad components follow IRC:137-2022, including tensile testing of a straight portion from the bent bar.

Why 7 STAR for precast work

7 Star IMPEX LLP makes GFRP bars, mesh and bent elements, so one supplier covers the straight bars, the mesh and the shaped bars in a precast unit. The GFRP line works with Armastek technology, as stated on 7stargfrp.com.

Send the bending schedule and the unit drawing. The reply covers what can be made, at which radius, and in what sequence.

Works at Masuri, Hapur and Kushkhera, Bhiwadi. Corporate office: A-29, Sector 65, Noida. Phone +91-7669275932.

Precast and bent element questions

Can GFRP be used in precast products?

Yes. 7 STAR’s FAQ says GFRP is widely used in precast factories for items such as trench covers, staircases and barriers, because it is light and corrosion-free.

Why can’t GFRP bars be bent on site?

Bending a cured GFRP bar on site can crack it. Bends are made in the factory under controlled heat, before the resin is fully cured. IRC:137-2022 does not permit site bending on road work.

What is the minimum bend radius?

IRC:137-2022 sets a minimum inside bend radius of three times the nominal diameter for M6 to M25, and four times for M29 and M32.

Can a bent element be corrected if the shape is wrong?

No. A bent GFRP bar cannot be re-bent or straightened. Check the bending schedule before ordering.

Is GFRP suitable for precast boundary walls?

Yes. Boundary walls appear across 7 STAR’s application lists, and the corrosion-free bar suits thin panels exposed to weather. The panel is designed for GFRP’s lower stiffness.

How are GFRP cages tied?

On building and factory work, 7 STAR’s FAQ says normal binding wire can be used. Road components under IRC:137-2022 use self-locking plastic straps or plastic-coated wire.
